At Charlie’s Big Red House in Gwanggyo, we believe that understanding and embracing cultural diversity is an essential part of early childhood development.
Our children grow up in an environment where they interact daily with teachers from diverse national and cultural backgrounds, communicating in one shared language — English — while naturally experiencing the richness of different cultures.
During this year’s Culture Day, our Charlie’s friends embarked on a global adventure!
They explored the home countries of their teachers, discovering unique traditions, dances, foods, and stories — expanding both their knowledge and their worldview in the most joyful way.
■ Countries and Activities We Explored
[Portugal]
The children learned about the homeland of world-famous soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo and experienced the lively spirit of Portuguese bullfighting. Waving bright red scarves, they joyfully pretended to be matadors, immersing themselves in this energetic tradition.
[United States]
From the Statue of Liberty to the NBA, our friends explored symbols of American culture. They enjoyed taking photos of iconic landmarks and had fun trying out basketball moves — getting a taste of America’s energetic, playful spirit.
[South Africa]
We learned that the colors of the South African flag stand for “freedom.” The children danced to vibrant Zulu and Gumboots rhythms, feeling the heartbeat of South African art and music.
[Australia]
Our young explorers met fascinating animals native to Australia and learned traditional Aussie dances. They even had the chance to touch a special kangaroo-leg scraper, creating a truly unique sensory experience.
[Ireland]
In the land of green, we discovered the symbols of Ireland and the story of St. Patrick. The children learned about the lucky clover and danced along to traditional Irish music, celebrating culture through joyful movement.
[United Kingdom]
The children delved into the rich history of the royal family, explored British cuisine, and even tasted Marmite on crackers — quite an adventure for their taste buds! They also learned about the iconic double-decker bus and imagined a trip through London’s charming streets.
[New Zealand]
Exploring the beautiful islands of New Zealand, our Charlie’s friends discovered breathtaking landscapes and learned the powerful Haka dance. They also compared school life in New Zealand with that in Korea, gaining new perspectives on education and culture.
[South Korea]
Of course, we couldn’t forget to celebrate our own culture! The children learned about football star Son Heung-min and the global K-pop phenomenon, and experienced the joy of traditional mask dancing, proudly connecting with their Korean heritage.
Through this special experience, our Charlie’s friends not only discovered the colorful diversity of our world but also learned the importance of respecting and appreciating different cultures.
At Charlie’s Big Red House, we will continue to nurture our children’s curiosity, creativity, and compassion — helping them grow into confident global citizens and future leaders.
